Microsoft® Office Communications Server 2007 uses an Enterprise pool consisting of more than one Front End Server and requires a hardware load balancer. A hardware load balancer is also recommended for arrays of Edge Servers or Directors. Hardware load balancers are devices that often combine an Ethernet layer 3 switch with the ability to load balance, and switch multiple streams of traffic, such as client to server; server to server; server to Active Directory; server to DNS; management access to server pool modules. This guide focuses on load-balancing and traffic-management of Office Communications Server 2007 and presents CAI Networks’ WebMux concepts from an Office Communications Server 2007 perspective, while bridging some differences between Office Communications Server 2007 and WebMux terminology.
This Planning and Deployment guide presents WebMux concepts, functionality, and benefits as they relate to Office Communications Server 2007, describes how to deploy WebMux in an Office Communications Server 2007 environment, including Communicator Web Access and Speech Server, and gives sample configuration settings for various Office Communications Server 2007 components.
